On Friday 9th May, the Level Two History class visited Ōtamahua (Quail Island) as part of their study on the 19th and early 20th century. Students explored the island to learn how its significance has changed over time, from a valuable resource for Māori to a quarantine station during several outbreaks, including the 1918 Spanish Influenza. Students ventured around the island and completed the loop track, taking in the sites of the pou whenua (land post), shipwrecks, replica leprosy huts, and the quarantine barracks.
