After several years of uncertainty during the pandemic period, Kaiapoi High School is proud to reopen its doors to international students and welcome them with warmth and support. Since 2023, we have gradually rebuilt and strengthened our international programme to create a safe, engaging, and culturally enriching experience for every student.
Our first group of international students arrived in February 2024, and they were warmly welcomed by the Principal, Mr Reid, and the International Director, Mr Bai. Their visit marked an important milestone for our school and set the foundation for the international community we continue to build today.
Throughout this journey, we have received many thoughtful and constructive responses, particularly regarding the need to further develop our international programme, especially around student engagement, adjustment, and the overall cultural experience outside the classroom. After careful analysis and several rounds of decision-making, Mr Bai introduced a unique initiative in February 2026 called the “Star Activity Programme.”
The Star Activity Programme is an extra set of activities, designed to sit on top of the normal curriculum and cultural programmes that international students already take part in. It is created to help students:
– feel more connected to the Kaiapoi High School community
– experience New Zealand life in a fun and meaningful way
– build confidence through real participation
– form friendships with both international and local students.
With the Star Activity Programme, Kaiapoi High School aims to make international learning more than just academics—it becomes a memorable journey filled with shared moments, discovery, and personal growth.
