We have started rehearsals for Into the Woods, our 2026 Kaiapoi High School Production, with a bang!

There is lots of singing and acting involved so far, and our lovely cast is handling it so well. The cast has had to do a lot of listening, trial and error, and performing. With the rehearsals, we aren’t always needed on stage, so this gives us a lot of patience to wait for our scene. Rehearsals have been every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, but we have been giving our all.

This term, we have rehearsed all of Act One. That’s five big scenes with lots of singing!

The director, Julia, has been great so far, and her ideas and directions have been awesome. Some of our students have been putting ideas forth and making our show that much better.

Our musical directors, Jessie and Mr Cheyne, have been teaching us the very hard timing of the Into the Woods songs. Some of the songs are very hard to perfect, and the cast has been doing so well, listening and learning the lyrics and timing.

The choreographer, Miss Hamilton, has been working with the dancers separately, and from what I’ve seen, they are doing exceptionally well.

Six hours a week is quite hard on top of our schoolwork. I am so proud of all of our performers so far. They have put in so much work into our show so far, and can’t wait to see what comes of next term. We are starting Act Two this week. Wish us luck!
