Tuesday-Thursday: SISS Volleyball Champs – Invercargill
Wednesday: Football Girls 5-aside Festival
Thursday-Friday: 3×3 Basketball Southern Regionals – Rolleston
Friday: SISS Beach Volleyball – Invercargill
Touch Rugby Festival
We had two teams playing in the Touch Festival at Hagley Park. It was a great day in the sun, and a fun day out for our students, and for some, it was the first time playing touch this season.
Football Girls 5-aside Festival
We had two Girls’ Football Teams playing in the 5-aside festival at English Park. The day started with a skills session with all schools taking part together before the games started.
It was a fun day, and the girls all enjoyed the experience of getting out and playing with their friends and teammates in 5-aside games. The girls finished the day earning a box of Favourites chocolates by getting the sportsmanship team award.
Thank you to Emily Keer Keer for her help on the day and also for refereeing.
Basketball 3×3
We had a Girls & Boys Team competing in the BBNZ 3×3 Southern Tournament, which was held over two days at Selwyn Sports Centre.
Congratulations to our Jnr Girls Hazel Herriott, Savarna Nutbrown, Madison Taylor, Paige McGregor & Zora Nabi, who played nine games over the two days, only going down to Te Aratai College in their first game of the tournament. They met them again in a close battle in the Final, finishing with a 9-8 win. Thank you to ex-student Estelle Herriott for coaching this girls’ team.
Well done to our Jnr Boys who competed strongly in the open grade, also playing nine games. Each game was competitive, with most of the games coming down to within three points.
Thank you to Dan Keating and Elijah Sommerfeld for coaching this boys’ team.
Thank you also to Dan Keating and Albie Gash for being our school referees, and well done to them both, as they were awarded finals games as a result of their effort over the two days.
The tournament was a great opportunity for both teams to play in a competitive competition with teams from schools around the South Island.
Volleyball SISS
Our Jnr A Girls Volleyball Team travelled to Invercargill for the SISS Champs, which was held over three days.
The team played nine games over the three days, getting three wins on Day 1 to put the team into the top 8. This then meant they were playing against the top teams from the other pools. This made for some tough competition on Day 2, with the team finishing the day without a win, but they had a close battle with St Hilda’s College, going down 2-1.
On Day 3, the team had to play CGHS in the quarter-final, which was a tough game, going down to the runners-up of the tournament. The team then finished the tournament with two wins against Motueka HS & St Andrews College to place 5th in the South Island. This was awesome and a great result for all the hard work this team has put in over the year.
A BIG thank you to Will Baxter and Rach Sharr for their time and effort in giving this team this opportunity.
Beach Volleyball SISS
A huge congratulations to Makayla Krahagen and Haley Pham for winning the SISS Beach Volleyball Champs, which was also held in Invercargill. This was an amazing achievement.
