The Kaiapoi High School’s Art Expo took place on Thursday, 30th October. This is an annual celebration of the arts, with both performances and displays of visual art portfolios. This was the final event organised by the 2025 Arts Committee, with help from Deputy Head Students, Talula Green and Addison Chapman, and led by Miss Mitchell.

The arts committee started organising this event at the start of term three, which included everything from advertising the event to students and staff, ordering food for the night with the help of Leeane Barnes, as well as having different roles on the night to ensure the event ran smoothly. Additional help was given by Mr Mead and Mr Baxter for sound and lighting, as well as Miss Hamilton for her efforts in videoing each performance.

The performance ranged in variety, everything from a beautiful original song by Year 12 student Eliza McDonald, to a fun and interactive Improv game run by the theatresports groups. This year, we had a record number of sign-ups for the Art Expo, with talent expressed from all areas of the arts. This also included dances from various years, such as Year 10 student Emma Wu and Year 11 student Vicky Tan, with an emotional celebration of Year 13 students Emily Harrison and Talula Green for their efforts towards the arts and dance. Other notable arts displayed were two films by Year 12 students Kalish Babu, Zander Moffat, and Maya Pradhan, poetry written by Year 12 student Bianca Jarden, and an awesome final performance by the band ‘Essence’ consisting of Year 9 students, Tualagi Iona, Liam Keating, and Year 10 students, Leon Mathew, and Jake Modderman.

This article is too short to fully appreciate the talent we have at Kaiapoi High School. The 2026 Art Committee will prepare to bring bigger and better things to widen the scope of Art Expo to more whanau and the wider community.
