This year, during Metal Technology, I learnt and used a range of useful engineering skills, including turning on a lathe, welding, using a milling machine, tapping threads and many others. Throughout the year, we worked through each part of the skateboard truck at our own pace, learning along the way. It was satisfying seeing how each separate piece slowly came together, and it made the whole process feel way more achievable. Some parts were definitely challenging, but figuring them out made it even more satisfying. I also found myself getting more confident with the machines and tools as the year went on, which wasn’t something I expected at the start.
All of this made the year both fun and rewarding, and it helped me produce this longboard for my troubles. Even though I am not much into hands-on practical work, I really enjoyed it and would happily choose it again if I could. To anyone who has chosen this subject for next year, you made the right choice!
