Dear Parents / Whānau,
As you may have seen in the media, the Secondary Teachers’ Union (PPTA) is currently in negotiation with the Government regarding teacher pay and conditions. This morning, the school received notification that rostering home (partial strike action) will be taking place next week.
Rostering home means that on specific days, students in designated year levels will stay at home rather than attend classes at school. The planned schedule is:
● Monday 15 September – Year 12 and 13 students
Although the required three-day notification has not yet been received for other year levels, it has been indicated that the following actions are also likely to occur:
● Tuesday 16 September – Year 11 students
● Wednesday 17 September – Year 10 students
● Thursday 18 September – Year 9 students
Unless you are advised otherwise, please assume that the Tuesday to Thursday rostering home will proceed. We will notify whānau immediately if these actions are called off, using email, the school Facebook page, and the SchoolBridge app.
On their rostered-home day, students in the designated year levels will not have in-school instruction, supervision, or class time. All other students should attend as usual.
We understand this disruption places pressure on families, and our priority is always supporting both learning continuity and whānau wellbeing. We hope that negotiations between the Ministry of Education and the PPTA are resolved quickly to minimise further disruption. We will provide further updates as soon as they become available.
Ngā mihi mahana.
Warm regards,
Jason Reid, Principal
