As we come to the end of Term 1, it has been a huge few weeks of sport as we finish up the summer sports season, with Summer Tournament Week and various tournaments. Our students have been amazing, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they have represented our school.

It’s great to see our students taking the opportunity to get involved and showing up for their team and our school.

To our parents, thank you for your support, whether it’s coaching, driving teams to games, or cheering our teams on from the sidelines. Your involvement means so much to us as sports coordinators, but even more to your child and their team.

A massive thank you to the staff who have been involved with our Wednesday Sport teams this term. Your dedication, time, and energy makes such a difference, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Ben Polden, Y12, who took part in the 2026 BMX New Zealand National Championships in Te Awamutu in March. He competed on both his 20″ bike and cruiser, which has bigger wheels.

Ben made the final on his 20″ and placed 8th in the 16 Boys class. In the 15-16 Boys Cruiser class, he placed 1st.

Ben is now planning his trip to Brisbane in July for the BMX World Champs.

CSS Swimming Champs

On Tuesday, we had four students represent our school in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Swimming Champs held at Parakiore. It was great to be able to have long-distance swimming again, with the new 50m pool at the new complex. This year the event took place over two sessions, with the finals being held at night. Congratulations to Kelly-Anne Cropp who placed 3rd in the 100m final. Well done to our swimmers who experienced their first secondary schools’ swimming event in the new pool, Gemma Langrish, Eden Peacock, Kelly-Anne Cropp, & Blake Truscott-Ohs.

Summer Tournament Week

What a fantastic week of sport from our students who represented our school during Summer Tournament Week. We had a full week of sport: Dragon Boating, 3×3 Basketball, Softball, Golf, Volleyball, Korfball, Athletics & Mountain Biking.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented our school, not just in their performances, but in their attitude, teamwork & sportsmanship throughout the week, taking pride in wearing our school colours.

A huge THANK YOU to the staff & parents who supported our teams and helped to make the week possible, we are truly grateful.

The full summary of the week, with updates and photos, is on our Kaiapoi High School Sport Facebook page. We try our best to keep our wider school community informed of all sporting highlights and successes.
