We are starting our 3rd week of summer sport with our teams participating in the interschool competitions, all while preparing for the upcoming winter season and tournaments. We are very grateful to the staff and parents who are helping support our weekly sporting opportunities.

Monday Volleyball – We currently have five volleyball teams competing each Monday in the interschool competition. It is exciting to have a Junior Boys & a Junior Girls team along with our three Senior teams.

Wednesday Sports

Wednesdays are packed with a mix of sports:

  • Tennis
  • Pickleball
  • Football 5-a-side
  • Small Bore Shooting
  • Dragon Boating
  • Girls Fitness Class
  • Ki-O-Rahi
  • Disc Golf

Archery – Thursday has seen strong interest again this year, with two sessions being held each week to accommodate all the keen students and it’s great to see so many new faces joining the returning students.

Our Friday Korfball teams are in full swing, with nine teams competing at the Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub each Friday night. It’s fantastic to see such strong interest for this mixed sport, and the teams are really starting to work well together as a team.

Winter Sports Trials
We have seen great numbers attending our weekly basketball scrimmages, and it’s hard to believe that our winter sports trials are already underway.  Our Netball trials start this weekend, with Basketball Senior A team trials already done and Junior Boys taking place this week. Our Junior Girls are still to be confirmed. Sign-ups for hockey and football are looking great, and there will be more information about preseason training in the coming weeks. All other winter sport sign-ups will be posted on the noticeboard later this month.

School Athletics – Next Week

Our School Athletics Champs are happening next Tuesday, and we hope to see some competitive athletes ready to push themselves to the next level. Those who perform well will have the chance to qualify for the Canterbury Champs, and from there, the South Island Champs, which are being held in Christchurch this year. Best of luck to all our athletes.

Equestrian – Dressage

Well done to Lydia Bensemann, who represented our school at the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Dressage Champs held at Mcleans Island last Wednesday. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough riders available to enter as a school, so Lydia was placed in a combined team and finished the day with great results, getting 4th & 8th. This was the first event in the school calendar for our Equestrian Team.

Tennis – Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Tennis Champs

Well done to Haley Pham, who competed strongly representing our school at the CSS Champs. This was to be a two-day outdoor tournament, but unfortunately the weather didn’t play its part, and it poured with rain. This meant the champs needed to be played indoors, which cut the tournament down to just one day for Haley, who represented our school with pride, winning one out of two games.

Volleyball – Mainland Tournament

We had both our Senior Boys & Senior Girls Teams play in the Mainland Volleyball Tournament held at the new sports complex Papakiore, which was the first of three tournaments this term. Our teams are now busy training in preparation for the next two tournaments being played this month.
