As we finish a year of sports at KHS we congratulate all of our students who contribute to the success of our sporting opportunities at school.
Your commitment to your team and how you represented KHS proudly is a real credit to you and, in the sports office, it has been an honour to have been part of your sporting journey this year. We are very grateful to the large number of coaches and managers as we have had teachers, staff, students, parents, and members of our community involved with our teams. We definitely could not offer all of our sporting opportunities without your help and we cannot thank you enough.
To our Year 13 students, we thank you for the contribution you have given to your chosen sports and teams. We wish you all the best for the future and, hopefully, we will see you around on the sports grounds in years to come – we hope you cherish the memories that you take away from being involved in sport at KHS
It has been great seeing so many students supporting our local sporting fixtures out on the Touch fields, at the courts playing Twilight Netball, at the Basketball courts coaching, and refereeing the Friday Night Primary School Competition. Have fun and keep up the good work!
Korfball SISS Junior Mixx Tournament
It was an awesome weekend of Korfball for our two Junior teams, which competed strongly at the SISS Mixx Tournament held at Nga Puna Wai. KHS Jnr Gold was undefeated, making it through to the finals against Hillmorton, which was a well-drilled team. Finishing 2nd was a great achievement, especially with the team only coming together for the tournament. Our Jnr Blue Team improved so much from just their first game as they hadn’t played together before. It was great watching them build on their game as a team and develop their understanding of the game. They had a great win to finish the tournament, placing 11th out of 18 teams.
We had three Junior teams playing in the Friday Night Competition and our teams were a combination of players from all three of these teams.
A BIG THANK YOU to our student coaches, James Harrison, Will Harrison, & Izzy Clark.
It was a great weekend with so much talent and a great group of students who represented KHS proudly.
Rugby 7s Tane Mahuta & SISS Tournaments
Our Junior Boys’ Rugby 7s team got their opportunity to play in the Tane Mahuta Rugby 7s Tournament at Linfield Park. They played five games, and it was great to see how well the team came together on the field. Everyone put in their best effort and it was so good to see the boys having fun with their mates and making some great memories.
Our U16 Boys’ team travelled to Timaru to play in the SISS 7s Tournament. They played against some tough competition in their pool games but never gave up and it was great to hear they all enjoyed the opportunity.
A BIG thank you to Lee, Jodie & Emma who were coaching, managing, and driving the team on the day.
Volleyball Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Junior Tournament
We had two Junior teams playing in the Canterbury Junior Volleyball Champs over three days (Friday – Sunday). Our Junior A team played in the Div 1 grade which saw this team grow over the tournament to finish 10th, which was amazing. Our Junior B team played in Div 2 and gained so much confidence and it was great to see both teams having fun.
A special mention to Betina Pineda & Haley Pham who were assessed and passed their umpire level while at the tournament.
A BIG Thank you to Will Baxter & Thalia Wilkin (staff) for the time you gave these teams over the weekend and also to Hannah Toli & Bobby Bailey-McDowell.
3×3 Junior Canterbury Basketball One-day Tournament
We had three teams playing their first 3×3 Tournament at Cowles Stadium with our Boys Blue & Girls teams getting through to the finals. The girls got the win in a close game against Ashburton and the boys finished with a close loss. Our Boys Yellow had lots of close games over the day. This was a great opportunity for our players to get back out on the court and build up to the BBNZ Regionals that took place during Jnr Tournament week.
Thank you to Josh Shaw & Hayden Downes for coaching and running the teams on the day.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Athletics Nationals – The Secondary Schools’ Athletics Nationals are being held in Timaru on the 6th-8th December. Best of luck to Lily Morrison, Elina Seuamuli, Kaedin Fettes, and Jack Brown who will be representing our school at this event.
