As we come to the end of Term 1, it has been a huge few weeks of sport as we finish up the summer sports season, with Summer Tournament Week and various tournaments. It’s great to see our students taking the opportunity to get involved and showing up for their team and our school. They have been amazing, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they have represented our school.

To our parents, thank you for your support, whether it’s coaching, driving teams to games, or cheering our teams on from the sidelines, your involvement means so much to us as sports coordinators, but even more to your child and their team.

A massive thank you to the staff who have been involved with our teams this term, your dedication, time, and energy make such a difference, and we couldn’t do it without you.

3×3 Basketball Regional Qualifiers

Our Senior Girls 3×3 team competed in the Zone 4 Regional Qualifiers held in Dunedin during summer tournament week. Our team competed strongly, going undefeated until meeting STAC again in the final.

Congratulations to Anika Shaw, Hannah Toli, Ellie Shaw & Maddie Gascoyne who have now qualified for Secondary Schools’ Nationals, which is taking place in Tauranga at the end of April.

MTB SISS Champs

We had four keen Mountain Bikers who competed in the SISS Champs held in Methven, Mt Hutt during summer tournament week.

Well done to Sophie Jolly, Cooper Jolly, Luuk Vree & James Richards who competed in a series of events spread over the four days, consisting of Cross Country, Junior Downhill, Senior Downhill, & Enduro.

Our riders did exceptionally well given the changing conditions as heavy rain changed the conditions of the course, making it extremely slippery and challenging for our riders. They all had a great time enjoying the experience, with varied results amongst all races.

A BIG thank you to Jay Jolly for your organising and managing the team over the four days, it was greatly appreciated.

Equestrian – Dressage

South Island Interschool’s Dressage was held on 19th March at Mcleans Island.  Lydia Bensemann, Maddie Stott, Rylie Stott, and Danielle Cooke were our four riders who represented our school. Kaiapoi High placed 18th out of the 28 teams competing. We were happy with this as some of the combinations are still new and it shows that we have a bright future ahead.

Well done to the girls competing and a massive thank you to their families for bringing them along and supporting them. Our team is looking forward to South Island Interschool’s Show Jumping coming up in the last week of term.

Kī-o-Rahi Waitaha Regionals Tournament

Last Friday, our Kī-o-Rahi team competed in the regional tournament, played at Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub.

This is the first big tournament our team has played in and they did really well, finishing 11th and gaining a better knowledge of the game while enjoying the experience.

A huge thank you to Whaea Molly for all the time and effort she has dedicated to our team. Your passion and hard work in growing this game within our school is very much appreciated.

Canoe Polo

Last Wednesday, our Canoe Polo team finished their season out on the water at Lake Rua where they have been playing in the weekly interschool competition. Well done to our team of Sam McIlraith, Cayden Manuel, Sam Wells & Alex Bartosh. It was great to see the team in action and they finished their term 1 season with three games, coming away with a finals win in their grade.

A BIG thank you to Geoff McIlraith for all his time and effort, going over and above in sharing his passion to give these students the best opportunity they could have.

CSS Swimming Champs

Last Wednesday we had students compete in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Swimming Champs held at Jellie Park. Well done to our Year 9 swimmers, Xavier Tohill and Tualagi Iona, who experienced their first secondary school event.

Unfortunately, our Senior swimmers were unavailable to compete.

Dragon Boating SISS Champs

After spending five weeks out on the Kaiapoi River, it was great for our team to be able to put all that practice into action at the SISS Dragon Boating Regatta held at Lake Rua on Sunday 30th March. It was a first to enter as a mixed team as we had five keen boys join our mix of experience and a big group of new students this term, which resulted in a lot of learning and teamwork.

Congratulations on the day’s efforts, they can be so proud of how far they have come in a short amount of time.

A big thank you to Reon Tiweka, our Community Coach/Sweeper, for all your time and effort with our team.
