The National Case Competition is an annual event held by the University of Auckland, who encourage students to look at a specified business case study and find solutions to those problems. This year, there were over 100 teams from across the country that entered the competition.

Isaac Jefferies, Oscar Bai, Liam Dalton & Josh Metzger entered a team from Kaiapoi High School. They were given a case study from the A2 milk company and needed to find a solution for how they were going to promote the A2 milk to youth and young adults. For the preliminary round, they needed to write a five-page report outlining what they would do to improve the brand awareness amongst the age group. They were successful in this round, which took them through to the semi-finals. This was an online 10-minute presentation of their report, followed by questioning. Again, the boys performed exceptionally well and made it through to the finals held at the University of Auckland.

After a logistical nightmare of getting the boys from their hockey tournament in Cromwell to Auckland, a big day was ahead of them. They were presented with a brand new case and had five hours to crack the case and present to a panel of judges, and 10 minutes of questioning afterwards. The boys did very well and were placed runners-up in the entire competition. In feedback from the judges, they said that the boys had the best finances and supply cases, but the team that won just beat them in other aspects of the presentation. So close to winning!!

This group of outstanding year 12 boys can be very proud of being the only team outside of Auckland and the only Year 12 team to qualify for the finals, let alone coming second in the country. They are already preparing for next year and looking at other competitions globally!
