Hinekura is back up and running this year, which is very exciting! We have about 60 girls signed up this year, with more joining each week. Hinekura is a rōpū for our Māori and Pasifika female students with the kaupapa of creating connection with their identity, culture, each other and the school. We have seen great results in the past with attendance and connection. We have been setting goals for the year, along with playing some Kilikiti on the nice days.
Last year, we were lucky enough to run our Hinekura Moana Whakaora programme, which is a learn-to-surf programme run out of Waikuku beach with Surfwise. Sport Canterbury kindly funded this programme and made an amazing video to showcase the programme and the kaupapa behind this.
