It has been a busy term in the Careers office, continuing with many student careers interviews.  Along with career visitors to school, such as from American Summer Camp, Competenz and Lincoln University, there have been many external career information nights and events held, which students have been attending.  There are more next term, so please keep checking the school careers website for lots of careers information, and you can subscribe if you wish to receive the weekly careers newsletter: https://kaiapoi.careerwise.school/

We have taken students on events including the Year 12 Discovery Day, Girls in Infrastructure, Girls in High Vis, University of Otago Health Careers Expo, and an industry visit to WYMA Solutions in Hornby (see separate articles).  All of these events highlighted to students the different career pathways, along with different training and tertiary study options.  We were also lucky to have ex-student Jayda Bailey visit to talk about her first semester at the University of Otago.  Jayda talked about living in a hall or residence along with study and student life.  She provided lots of helpful advice and information for our current students, including hall and scholarship applications.

Next term, for students in years 9-12, we will start the Subject Selection process for 2027.  Important dates are the school Subject Selection Evening on Thursday 6th August, from 4-6 pm in Karetū, where you can talk to different teachers about the next level of study and what it entails.  Then, on Tuesday 11th August, the large North Canterbury Youth Futures Careers Expo is taking place at the Mainpower Stadium in Rangiora from 4-7 pm.  Both are valuable events to attend, and I look forward to connecting with some of you there.
