New 2027 Course Selection is just around the corner!!
The course selection evening for years 10 to 12 in 2027 will take place between 4 pm and 6pm on Thursday, 6th August, in Karetū. We will have a range of tertiary providers, careers pathways representatives, and staff from each faculty there to help you make informed decisions about your 2027 course selections. We will send more detailed information at the start of next term.
New 2027 KHS NCEA Level 1 to Level 2 Progression Criteria
This is to inform you that we have updated our Level 1 achievement criteria by raising the minimum number of credits required to advance to a Level 2 course. This change ensures that students complete an improved Level 1 foundation before moving on to a more demanding Level 2 programme. We believe this adjustment will help our students maximise the quality of their educational programmes, NCEA achievement, and post-school pathways. Year 11 students were informed of this update at a recent assembly.
To provide detail,
NCEA Level 1 Progression Criteria
- Minimum Credit Requirement: Students must achieve at least 30 Level 1 credits to progress to a Level 2 programme of study. Note: This excludes the 20 credits required for Corequisite Literacy and Numeracy.
- Subject Prerequisites: Moving to a Level 2 subject is conditional on meeting its specific Level 1 prerequisite. Students cannot choose open-entry Level 2 subjects without prerequisites.
- Replacing Dropped Subjects: If a student decides not to continue with a specific Level 1 subject, then they must select a different Level 1 subject to replace it.
- Literacy & Numeracy Priority: Completing Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy is strictly non-negotiable and takes absolute priority. Because this is essential for achieving NCEA at all levels, it will be prioritised even if it impacts or conflicts with a preferred Level 2 course selection.
