Last week, the KHS Gifted and Talented (GATE) students hosted Isabel Chen, a guest speaker who came to share her insights on how she navigates her varying roles within the community.

Isabel is a bodybuilder, pharmacist, and volunteers for Satisfy Food Rescue. It was a great opportunity for students to deepen their understanding, learn from an inspiring leader, and develop skills and strategies that can help later in life. She spoke about how giving things a go at a young age and engaging in community initiatives can help develop a range of practical and leadership skills that will be needed later in life.

Isabel Chen has faced challenges both mentally and physically. It was inspiring to hear how she overcame these challenges, such as getting up at 5 am for fitness sessions… with her key message being to always face things head-on, with grit and determination, and a ‘never give up’ attitude. The journey may not always be smooth, but these experiences can often shape our future selves.

Isabel certainly gave the GATE students something to think about and act on as we continue to navigate our high school journey.
