On Friday 8th May, our Level 3 Tourism class took a field trip to Hanmer Springs. 19 students attended our outdoor adventure. Our purpose was to take part in local Aotearoa New Zealand Tourism activities.
The weather threatened us with rain all morning, but it did us right, and we only had short bursts of showers while remaining nice and warm. The Waiau River, however, was higher than usual, and rather choppy, so we had some extra fun with the bumps and drops of the rapids. Our awesome jet boat driver informed us of historical and geological features along the way. After a lovely lunch break in Hanmer Springs township, we spent the remainder of the afternoon treasure-hunting through the Aztec-style maze, and got in most of a round of mini-golf before the heavens finally opened, sending us to the vans, perfectly timed to get back to KHS on time.
Thanks to Hanmer Springs Attractions, Waiau River Jet Boating, and A-MAZE-N-GOLF Hanmer Springs for accommodating us, and providing these thrilling experiences in such a beautiful environment. Thanks also to Mrs Remington Evans-Brakey and Mr Simon Henson for being our van drivers and supervisors!
